5. What is the difference between an Exercise Professional registration, Sole Trader registration and Fitness Business registration?

Exercise Professional: Professionals who deliver exercise services to clients (i.e. fitness instructors or trainers) must be registered as an Exercise Professional in order to obtain professional insurance and to work in the fitness industry.

AusREPs may be employed or contracted by a gym or fitness centre, or may be self-employed and working across a variety of typical settings for service delivery, depending on registration category and scope of practice (e.g. outdoor public space, community centres, client homes, workplaces).

Sole Trader registration enables registered exercise professionals to build and promote their business to the public.  Sole trading exercise professionals have an ABN and are self-employed, delivering fitness services to clients in a variety of settings.  Sole trading exercise professionals might own and run their business independently but may also have contracted staff and/or a business partner.

Sole Trading Business registration combines exercise professional registration together with a range of services and benefits to help Sole Trading build a successful business.

Fitness Business registration accommodates all studio and fitness centre models, providing dedicated support to achieve high quality business standards together with an array of services and resources to promote business success.

A requirement of fitness business registration is that all individuals who deliver exercise services maintain current exercise professional registration.
