Information about Fitness Australia registration, services and support
Fitness Australia can recognise past qualifications achieved in Australia after the year 2000.
If your qualifications were obtained more than 2 years ago but after the year 2000, you’ll need evidence of a minimum of twenty (20) continuing education credits (CEC) from approved education that has been completed within the most recent 2 year period and current First Aid and CPR certification.

Fitness Australia may be able to recognise your University Degree.
If you supply your Academic Transcript through to Fitness Australia, we’ll let you know whether you meet the requirements to register as a Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer.

Exercise Professional: Professionals who deliver exercise services to clients (i.e. fitness instructors or trainers) must be registered as an Exercise Professional in order to obtain professional insurance and to work in the fitness industry.
AusREPs may be employed or contracted by a gym or fitness centre, or may be self-employed and working across a variety of typical settings for service delivery, depending on registration category and scope of practice (e.g. outdoor public space, community centres, client homes, workplaces).
Sole Trader registration enables registered exercise professionals to build and promote their business to the public. Sole trading exercise professionals have an ABN and are self-employed, delivering fitness services to clients in a variety of settings. Sole trading exercise professionals might own and run their business independently but may also have contracted staff and/or a business partner.
Sole Trading Business registration combines exercise professional registration together with a range of services and benefits to help Sole Trading build a successful business.
Fitness Business registration accommodates all studio and fitness centre models, providing dedicated support to achieve high quality business standards together with an array of services and resources to promote business success.
A requirement of fitness business registration is that all individuals who deliver exercise services maintain current exercise professional registration.

To upgrade your registration:
Once your new qualification documentation has been received, we’ll verify and process your registration upgrade. We’ll send you a confirmation email and a new certificate once this occurs.
Fitness Australia recognises exercise professionals who are currently registered with REPS NZ, REPS UK, REPS Ireland, REPS South Africa, REPS U.A.E. and countries that are associated with EREPS (Pan European Association).

Once you have submitted your application, we’ll verify and process your registration. We’ll send you a confirmation email once this has occurred and your registration pack will be posted to you.
